Ted and I bought ebikes in 2019 after trying them on an ebike ride in Germany. We love them and biked nearly 2,500 miles on them. This year, we decided we’re old enough to wish we had a step-through bike instead of a leg-over style, so we went shopping.

Naturally, we went to Granada, where we bought our Giant brand 24-speed bikes in the early 1980s, and our Specialized ebikes in 2019. As always, it was a great experience with the Granada crew. Granada sells only reputable bike brands and advertises that they have every kind of bike needed for everyone from professional racers to casual Katy-trail bikers like us. We took test rides on several brands of ebikes and settled on Velotrix, not because it was better or worse than the others we rode, but because it felt like the most fun to ride. As a result, it was out with the old, . . .

. . . and in with the new.

Now, what do we do with our old ebikes? We have a neighbor who is looking for an ebike since she rode one in Switzerland in July, but we decided to offer the bikes to our daughters first. Kari wasn’t interested, but Kathy and Annette were. They don’t have a bike carrier for their car, so Ted and I invited Kari and Theo to go with us to deliver the ebikes to Kathy and Annette. It was a fun ride back and forth and even more fun for the six of us to spend a large portion of the day together.

We had delicious tunaburgers and sides for lunch and then, because the delivery day was close to Annette’s birthday, it was time for her to open her birthday gifts. We gave her a bike bag and some minor bike gear for her birthday.

Then it was time to teach the girls which buttons to push to control the ebikes and to adjust them for the girls’ sizes.

Annette and I really got into adjustments for awhile and someone took a picture of the tops of our heads.

There was no paperwork involved, but these pictures might qualify as the official transfer of ownership. Kathy wanted Ted’s bike and Annette wanted mine.

Here are two happy ebike owners/riders!

In a bike-related digression, a few days after we delivered our old bikes to Kathy and Annette, Ted and I took our new bikes for a ride on the Katy Trail. Along the trail, we saw this sign. In case you can’t read it, it says “This gate to remain closed at all times.” I guess enforcement is weak on the Katy. We and the other bikers rode right past the gate on the trail. We love our ebike life!
